The Guavira, also called Gabiroba occurs in the brazilian Cerrado, mainly in Mato Grosso do Sul state. It has good taste and flavour, with a juicy pulp, sweet and sourish. It can be consumed in natura or manufactured as juices, sweets, ice creams and jams. It is quite rich in vitamin C, reaching 20 times more than the orange, potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, lipids, etc.
The leaves of this plant contains some medical properties as anti-inflamatory, antidiarrheal, antiseptic actions in the urinary tract.In popular medicin, it has been used to treat stomacal diseases, inflamations, reumatism, and urinary tract infections.
Reasearches in laboratory revealed that its essencial oils found in the flowering and fructification presented high activity against Candida albicans and Staphyloccocos aureus. In cosmetics it may be used in the manufacturing of shampoos, conditioners, soaps, creams and lotions.
